Sonya SALMAN was born in Moscow and started to play piano at 5.
In 1978 she entered to the Gnessin Special School of Music in Moscow
and in a year performed the Haydn's Piano Concerto at the Great
Hall of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. In 1989 she finished the
music school being awarded a Gold Medal for excellence in education.
At the same year she became a student of the Gnessin Russian Academy
of Music under Prof. Alexander Satz (later at the University of Music and Fine Arts
in Graz, Austria). During her study in the Academy Sonya participated in
several concert tours in Russia, France, and Italy. In 1994 she graduated from
the Academy with an academic honor (magna cum lauda) as a concert pianist and a
teacher of music. In 1994-1996 Sonya Salman took an advanced graduate education
at the Academy in piano under Prof. Yuri Petrov, and in chamber ensemble
under Prof. Irina Anastasiyeva. During her post-graduate study Sonya
performed numerous recitals in Russia, Italy, and Sweden. In 1995, she
received a Scholarship of the Russian Government for excellence in music
education. In 1996, she received a Diploma at the International CICM Competition
in Geneva (Switzerland) and was a recipient of a Japanise private
scholarship for the best performance of modern Japanise music. In 1996,
Sonya together with her friends organised the piano trio ensemble, and she
has been a pianist of the trio "Novoye Trio" (see below) till
2000, when she left for Germany. The trio played many concerts in Russia
and Spain. They recorded 2 CDs with Russian and French music (see below);
their concerts were broadcasted by several Russian radio companies. Sonya performed
as a soloist many concerts a year in Russia and abroad (Sweden, England,
and Germany). Also, she has been a half-time assistant Professor in the
Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. Since 2001 Sonya lives in Germany,
where she plays concerts (e.g., in Bonn, Breten, Karlsruhe, Schaebisch Hall), and
since 2016 she is the art director of the Choir
"Banaten Schwaben Karlsruhe" (see below).
